Whatever happened to old fashioned customer service? to sum it up my Jetta has alot of bugs.not to worry, I'm sure VW has patented the pesticide, just hope I'm able to afford that-can use the money I'm saving in fuel economy.Ĭ ® is an online automotive complaint resource that uses graphs to show automotive defect patterns, based on complaint data submitted by visitors to the site. VW not only fails to address or acknowledge the defects with these vehicles, but to exacerbate the situation they attempt to lock you -the consumer into their monopoly, for example:keyless remotes in which the batteries are only replaceable by VW dealers, a synthetic VW oil, a very costly trunk latch, that with my experience you end up replacing annually.the list goes on. VW is making big bucks on the consumer hoping to save a few dollars with fuel economy. Even the replacement latches need replacing. Oh and the salesman neglected to mention that the all weather package included a trunk that will not shut or stay shut in cold weather. Nighttime visibility in a Jetta is the equivalence of wearing a blind fold. This vehicle design allows for poor rear visibility in general however, it is amplified in low light situations with the combination of high rear head rests, a glare on the back glass from the third brake light, and if you have a rear spoiler this makes for a really bad combination. All fuses are intact and no electrical issues reported. Pressing the drivers side door lock does not lock passenger doors. Doors must be locked by opening each one manually and pressing the lock door button located on each passenger door. At this stage the alarm system no longer works either by key fob depress nor by manually turning the lock in the drivers side door as described earlier. Dome light stays on while driving as if the doors are indeed open even though they are securely closed. After some time dashboard shows "door open" symbol even when all doors are securely closed and indicator light on door is off. The only way to silence alarm is by closing passenger door, closing driver side door and turning key right once to lock and left to unlock. Depressing the silence alarm button on key fob does not silence alarm. The passenger doors that do not lock cause the alarm to go off when opened. Passenger doors do no lock when manually turning key the right from the driver side door, which is the only manual keyhole. After some time passenger doors stop responding to second turn. Once turn unlocks the driver's side door, another turn unlocks the passenger doors. The only way to open the door is by manually inserting the key into the drivers side, which is the only manual keyhole, and turning left twice. Replace the batteries to the remote and still the car will not respond. It took longer to adjust it, than to replace it.First, vehicle's electronic locks stop responding to depresses from both remotes. I replaced the entire lock assembly, because the plastic piece that had broken was not removable. It turns out it was a broken plastic tab that had snapped off in the lock assembly. My 03' had the same problem, but my model year has the release handle, so I was able to get inside and open it from inside the car. But if anyone knows if there's a way to open the trunk from the inside, as if I were to crawl into the trunk through the back seat, I would love to know.[/QUOT How would you open the trunk lid if the battery were dead?ĮDIT: I'm so sorry, I now see that this has been asked before, although in the other person's case the solenoid wouldn't even operate. First of all, I'm amazed that the actual key in the trunk lock doesn't work the mechanism, but instead operates the solenoid. I've gone through the owner's manual, and there's no workaround. I can hear a solenoid activate, but the latch doesn't want to open to release the trunk lid. The trunk lid on my 2001 Jetta GL TDI won't open, not with the key, not with the remote, and not with the switch on the door. I've looked through the forums, and I haven't seen this yet.
